Exhibits
Each
year, the Tongass Historical Museum produces three-to-four
changing exhibits in the Museum’s small (1,500
sq. ft.) gallery space. Exhibit themes include local
history, art, photography, and Native Alaskan culture.
Community-based exhibits, illuminating the interests
and pastimes of local residents and drawing on local
collections, are also presented. Occasionally, traveling
exhibits produced by other institutions are featured.
A small permanent exhibit, The First People,
includes Native Alaskan artifacts from the Tlingit,
Haida, and Tsimshian cultures, ranging from pre-contact
stone tools to contemporary Northwest Coast art.
