Gateway Center for Human Services
Mental Health Services

Mission:
The General Mental Health Services at Gateway Center for Human Services are committed to assisting individuals, couples, and families in the process of restoring and/or developing the ability to function adaptively, effectively, and with reasonable self-assurance in their lives. We believe these services should be prompt, accessible, nondiscriminatory, and of the highest quality possible. Services should be provided in a manner that is sensitive to and respectful of cultural diversity, individual differences and embraces the right of all people to live with dignity and self-determination

Emergency Services:
Emergency services are available from a counselor on-call, 24-hours per day, 7-days per week. Calls are screened and referred through a pager by Ketchikan General Hospital staff. During regular office hours the center’s staff share duties to also meet with clients on a walk-in or emergency basis.

Community Support Program:
Case Management, therapy and medication management are provided with client support services to adults who have a severe and persistent mental illness. The program also operates a Drop Inn Center for eligible clients.

Children and Youth Program:
This program provides case management and therapy services to youth with severe emotional disturbances. Services are provided in the clinic and through outreach in the school, home, and community.

General Mental Health Services:
Program provides services to the general population, which include evaluations, individual, group, and family counseling, psychological testing, and medication management. Specialty areas with some staff include working with depression, eating disorders, and dual diagnosis, with a wide variety of therapeutic disciplines.

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Services:
Program is comprised of a diagnostic team in our area for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. There is a coordinator for Ketchikan, Metlakatla and Prince of Wales Island who offers community information, education and support to families and children.
