Qualifications to run for Council: A
person who wishes to run for a vacant seat on the
City Council must be 18 years of age, a qualified
voter, and have resided within City limits for one
year. A person who wishes to run for mayor must
be at least thirty years of age. A petition, which
must be signed by at least 10 registered City voters,
must be filled out and submitted to the Clerk's
office 4 weeks prior to the election. A declaration
of candidacy as well as a financial disclosure statement
must be filled out before a person's name will be
allowed on the ballot.
Personal Representative: A person
may assist another in the voting process by becoming
a personal representative. Although it can be time
consuming, many people would never be able to vote

takes it to the voter. The voter fills out the form,
which names the helper as their personal representative,
votes the ballot, inserts the ballot into the secrecy

returns all of it to the Clerk's office by 5 p.m.
on the date of the election.
Absentee Voting: If you are going
to be out of town on election day, you may absentee
vote. Absentee voting takes place in the Clerk's
office two weeks prior to the election date. Someone
may also request an absentee ballot in writing by
providing a voter identification number as well
as their residence address.
Please remember
to bring identification in order to vote!!
